The CLEANSED project demonstrated, evaluate and disseminate an innovative, integrated, multisector\u00a0approach for the smart and sustainable management of polluted dredged river sediments.
\nPolluted sediments have been dredged, transformed from a contaminated waste into a valuable material\u00a0via a specific decontamination treatment, and then put to productive use in two different sectors:<\/p>\n
The whole cycle will took place within a real natural and productive district, i.e. the basin and alluvial\u00a0plains of the Arno river, Italy.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/h2>\nThe HORTISED project aimed at demonstrate the suitability of dredged remediated sediments as an\u00a0alternative for the preparation of growing media in horticulture.
\nThe project demonstrated the great potentials of sediment-based growing media through the growth of pomegranate and strawberry as representative plants at farm scale in Italy and Spain.<\/p>\n
The performance of the innovative growing media has been demonstrated by comparison with the typical production of the same fruits obtained with the use of the traditional peat-based growing media.<\/p>\n
The HORTISED project also highlighted the current legislative and cultural reasons for hindrance in the use of innovative growing substrates in horticulture and produced guidelines for the safe and sustainable use of sediments as ingredients of horticultural growing media.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n NUTRIMAN is a Nitrogen and Phosphorus Thematic network compiling knowledge of \u201cready-for-practice\u201d recovered bio-based fertiliser technologies, products, applications and practices for the interest and benefit of agricultural practitioners.<\/p>\n The project focuses on connecting market competitive and commercially \u201cready for practice\u201d innovative results drawn from high research maturity applied scientific programmes and common industrial practices.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n 40 000 m3 of sediments will be removed and treated as secondary raw material within the circular economy concept.\u00a0 The project aims also to disseminate, transfer and replicate the project ideas and results within Sweden and Europe.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n In order to achieve the purpose sediment-based substrates will be applied to nursery production of ornamentals (cherry laurel) and fruit trees (olive and citrus), and to cultivation of non food crops (protea, calla lily, cherry laurel) and food crops (basil, blueberry, woodland strawberry and citrus).<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The main aim of the LIFE Biorest project is to decontaminate pollutes soils, restoring green areas useful for the city.<\/p>\n LIFE BIOREST demonstrates the efficiency and effectiveness of an biological approach for soil remediation based on autochthonous bacteria and fungi.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The project aims to improve the protection and management of the soil, the well-being of the vine and the quality of grapes and wine through the application of an innovative product, obtained by composting waste from the wine supply chain and zeolite.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The project proposes\u00a0a system of management of organic fertilization aimed at contrasting the erosion of organic matter and improving the homogeneity and quality of the vineyards.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The project aims\u00a0at demonstrating the validity of the integration of radical microbial associations and use of leaf products able to induce resistance to reduce up to 50% synthetic chemical inputs in the antifungal defense.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n![\"\"](\"http:\/\/www.lifeagrised.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/sekret-life-logo.png\"){kind=logo}
<\/a>The SEKRET project consisted of different actions aimed at demonstrating that the innovative Electro- Kinetic Remediation (EKR) technology can effectively remove heavy metals from contaminated harbour dredged sediments from European ports. The innovative technology has been demonstrated in the Port of Livorno in order to prove the technical and financial feasibility of the project, as well as the environmental advantages compared to current management strategies (disposal in landfills and dumping at the open sea).<\/p>\nH2020 Nutriman<\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n
